The Balvenie ist mit ihrer Schwesterdestillerie Glenfiddich noch heute unabhängig und im Familienbesitz ihrer Gründer. Dieser Balvenie reifte, wie der Name schon sagt, in drei verschiedenen Fassarten: Sherry-, First-Fill-Bourbon- und Refill-Fass. Im Unterschied zum 12jährigen naturgemäß aber um 4 Jahre länger.
